Lending A Helping Hand

It’s all about volunteering!! I figured I have all this time on my hands while looking for work, why not put myself to use and VOLUNTEER!

What a great idea, I get to step away from the computer and all the job searching and apply myself and assist people in need. People volunteer for many reasons but mines is simply to help people that may be in a worse situation then myself, the fact that I am able to do so is such a blessing. My presence could make someone’s day and that is all the reward I need, so I smile as much as possible, courteous at all times and say kind words to those that may seem down. I recently had my first day at the Sue Pridmore women’s center and was so excited I had to post my feelings on the one and only Facebook of course lol!

So let’s jump into some details shall we?

I started Volunteering at the Sue Pridmore center the other day because I have the desire to help others, flash a smile, and be kind. Who knows, just by doing those things could really make someone feel like they truly matter. While serving food the cook and I had a conversation and he thought I was ONLY volunteering because I needed college credit. To be honest I did chuckle a bit, because for one he thought I was way younger than I am and for two shocked to find out that most people that he has worked with only volunteered for that reason. I then replied and stated NO I just want to do it out of the goodness of my Heart. I feel God’s purpose for me is to also serve and help people outside of my family and friends. Chef Joe was surprised at my answer and he said “WOW we rarely get people like you, which really means a lot and THANK YOU". Wow really…was all I could say but in my head I was on cloud nine!

Here I was cleaning, cooking, serving and smiling and NOT complaining and someone was thanking me for just being ME lol! How awesome is that?
I felt great and the ladies were so inviting and friendly. My first day was a great success and can’t wait to go back next week and the week after and the months to follow lol! Volunteering is definitely a great way to utilize my time and it the process touch lives. GOD is so good and this is one situation where I can say I DONT MIND BEING USED.

So I hope you all have a blessed day and whenever the opportunity arises be a blessing to someone else.

Happy job searching for those in my boat and for those employed to have a stress free work day.

“Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” – Psalms 119:105

Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. So I pray for wisdom so that I shall not seek any comfort outside of his light. For outside of the light there is darkness where fear and doubt dwell so I open my mouth and out flows the harmonies of the song I used to sing as a little girl. “This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, LET it SHINE!

Be blessed and I hope this encourages those who need a little light directed toward them to light their path! He is the answer and the ONLY way.

Job seekers keep the faith, keep putting in work because our GOD provides and it will be done, when he deems the time is right. So be patient and HURRY UP AND WAIT =)

Back to the Drawing Board

Hello world!
I know it’s been a while since I my last post and I do apologize but this whole job searching routine is getting really intense. At this point my day is routine and I can’t help but feel like a helpless hamster on the running wheel.

My day consist of job searching, job searching and MORE JOB SEARCHING…sorry to yell but it is quite frustrating. It almost seems like if I can’t land a job soon that my only other option is to go back to school and pursue my master’s degree. That option doesn’t seem too bad but my fear lies in what if the economy doesn’t pick up and what if I spend two more years to further my education and when I finish I STILL can’t land a job. The invasion of the what if questions are slowing trying to tear me down, but I just can’t get myself to wave the white flag...besides I’m not a quitter.

This is where the saying “life is full of risk and you shouldn’t be afraid to take them” comes into play …right?
As I stated in a previous post I’ve joined employflorida.com, careerbuilder.com, monster.com, and the list goes on and so far no success. I even tried the old fashion way to try and apply in person but no luck with that approach.
Is there anyone out there that could suggest that I try something different? Does anyone have a connection with any individuals that may be hiring in the media field?
To all my readers, family and friends I would love to have your support and assistance on my journey to land a great job that is enjoyable as well. My resume is available upon request. Thanks for reading and Have a blessed day!

To all the people out there job searching, don’t get discouraged as I know it can be at times, God will bless us all soon in due time.

Smile because you deserve to!

It's Carnival!!!

Trinidad Carnival 2011

Yes indeed people it’s finally March and one of the BIGGEST carnivals in the world with be taking place in Trinidad and Tobago on March 7-8th, 2011!
Imagine extravagant costumes, enticing body swaying music, the feeling of being surrounded by love and unity and what do you get? The ultimate carnival experience and I’ve been to many of carnivals before but NEVER Trinidad and Tobago so that is definitely on the top of my to-do list for 2012!
To describe the carnival experience I would say its full of life, beautiful colored feathers on costumes, complimented by large trucks with live dj’s bumping the sounds of soca music from the huge speakers and for the drinkers plenty of rum and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to keep you hydrated in the sun.
If someone ever tells you they are a soca junkie it’s a person that loves soca music which is best described as a blend of soul and calypso music that originated in the West Indies.  For the “soca junkies” Trinidad’s carnival is the next carnival they are eagerly waiting to wow the crowds and conquer before moving to the next carnival in the following months.
I must say I am pretty jealous of the individuals that are in Trinidad this very moment as I type this enjoying all the great music, the concerts, flag waving, waist winin, and let’s not forget the FOOD such as doubles "Doubles" is a common food in Trinidad and Tobago.  It is a sandwich made with two flat fried breads, called "Bara" filled with curried channa topped with a variety of spicy chutneys like mango, cucumber, coconut, and tamarind and pepper sauce if you like. It is usually eaten for breakfast, and sometimes lunch, but can be eaten as a snack after a huge fete (large elaborate party) is over!  Other foods that get me excited include bake and shark(consists of deep-fried shark stuffed in deep-fried batter, called "Bake",curry crab and dumplings and the list goes on. Are you hungry yet? I know I am lol!
For those that are unfortunate like myself and will not be in attendance you can torture yourself by looking at events streaming live on triniscene.com click on this link and enjoy http://triniscene.com/tsv7/home/?page=splash .
Last night or shall I say this morning I watched eyes wide shut and saw Machel Montano who is always bringing  the energy he also performed alongside with Patrice Roberts,  Benjai and many others. Let’s just say in my Caribbean accent “ woiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii ah was bussin a hard wine in meh room!” translation basically I was enjoying myself and dancing in my room as if I were there smh lol!
But carnival is not ONLY for the masqueraders (person that participates in the parade with the costumes)  Spectators are by no means left out of when it comes to having fun they too are involved. They have a tendency to join in on the dancing, sometimes dancing with the masqueraders and waving their flags up in the air displaying their Caribbean pride.  Carnival is not only for Caribbean people it’s for people from all types of backgrounds, countries and for people of all ages to come out and enjoy!

Well for those in Trinidad for carnival be safe, enjoy and wine til you can’t wine NO MORE!

For those in the states here are some special treats that I’ve been enjoying this year for carnival season. If you are thinking about attending Trinidad for the 2012 carnival start saving now and save the dates of  Feb 20-21st and start planning accordingly.

*SOCA Bandits dis one is fuh yuh~~~~ muah
"so if yuh a soca junkie like meh, here is some soca therapy for de day!!"

Show some love to your Love

 <3 Top 10 to win on Valentine’s Day <3

I composed a list of things that I feel would be cute to do on Valentine’s Day. Fellas I hope you are listening.

1.       Home-made valentine’s card. For me I feel this is so thoughtful and creative. It shows you put effort into it and it’s your words. Besides anyone can buy a card with some heart-felt saying on it BUT your card is a ONE of a kind trust this makes a lady feel EXTRA special knowing that her girlfriend won’t have the same exact card setting on her dresser.

2.       Cancel the dinner reservations and have a candle light dinner at home. This is a nice touch because I feel reservations on Valentine’s Day are a huge hassle and less intimate. How many times have little arguments started due to missed reservations, long waiting times or your significant other complaining about the choice made. It’s often pretty loud as well, why don’t you try the candle lit environment, make a romantic mix cd and the best part the focus is where it needs to be on YOU and YOUR date. If you can’t cook fellas… you could order out and pretend that you made it lol.

3.       If you are going to go the dinner reservation route, try purchasing her a beautiful dress in (HER SIZE), wrap it up in a nice package, arrive early to pick her up and request that she wears what you got her on your outing. If you want extra brownie points matching heels wouldn’t hurt at all. (The key to this success is to know your significant other’s style and size.)

4.       Flowers (of course cliché) But it’s how you utilize the flowers there are so many uses for example: bouquet of flowers, rose pedals spread throughout the house on the ground, bed, table counter, in or around the hot tub, around the pool with candles… Flowers EVERY where you get the drift lol! * A little hint to pull this off and NOT hurt your pockets: artificial rose pedal (silk rose petal) they work wonders I found some pink and red ones in Wal-Mart for less than five bucks per package! They also look VERY REAL =0)

5.       Have an exciting scavenger hunt with clues and places that are special to the both of you like the first place you met or had your first date. You could even have it within your home and watch as your significant other follows the clues and discovers the treasures you left for them!

6.       Go for a walk on the beach, at the park or any place with beautiful scenery

7.       Wine gotta toast to that lol! If you don’t drink sparkling wine anyone?

8.       Fellas if you were gifted with the gift of singing serenade your love with that voice of yours. If you can’t sing… in the wise words of Rupaul “lip sync for your LIFE”. Don’t be afraid to go all out and make up a routine if you like this would definitely make your lady laugh ( if she has a sense of humor)

9.       Chocolate, assorted candy and MORE CHOCOLATE which is usually accompanied with stuffed animals and flowers.

10.   Attention, attention, ATTENTION Ladies!

Although Valentine’s Day seems like it was basically invented to revolve around us, and our significant others are to shower us with flowers, gifts, romantic get-a-ways, presents, presents and more presents. It wouldn’t hurt to do something for your guy. I shocked one of my past boyfriends by doing just that, after I got all my gifts and the romantic dinner I showed him how much I appreciated him. I got him his favorite artist Cd he was trying to find and had no luck finding and had a gift bag full of goodies of his favorite things, and sprinkled the silk rose petals (this is how I knew about the pedals lol!) all over his room along with candles. I blind-folded him and led him into his room with the gift bag sitting on the center of the bed. He was beyond shocked! For one he didn’t expect to get anything from me and I was the first girlfriend he had that actually got him something for Valentine’s Day. So make your men feel just as special and show them that you appreciate them. Be creative, show them that you pay ATTENTION to what they like and go beyond purchasing the cutest thing you can find at victoria secrets lol!

Hope this was helpful and that everyone has a Happy Valentine's Day =)

I'm Riding Solo

It’s a new year and I figured why not try something NEW!  So I got all dolled up and I mean the whole works make-up, lip gloss and a trendy comfortable outfit (p.s. which is the norm the new thing is coming up lol).

I looked great and was feeling so fantabulous I even gave myself a compliment lol!

I was preparing myself for the date of my LIFE, and I couldn’t keep that special someone waiting. I jumped into my car and drove myself to the cinema and since I make it a habit to leave in a timely manner I was early. Who could complain about that? My punctuality provided me with the opportunity to touch up my lip gloss, and have a quick jam session in my car to calm my nerves.
I opened my car door and the breeze was refreshing as it hit my face and I inhaled and exhaled slowly and said to myself “you can do this, snap out of it and stop being nervous”.
I walked up to the box office and said to the attendant “a ticket for one please”

I know some of you are probably thinking how could this be the date of my life?  Or why did I pay for my own ticket? Those are great questions and my response to both is very simple... I took myself on a SOLO DATE.  I treated the one and only… me, myself and I. That’s right; I also splurged on some rather tasty Swedish fish and ordered a large root beer.

Sheer bliss to a woman’s tummy and mines was smiling in satisfaction. There I was in the cinema about to do something that I’ve NEVER done before…I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner, I guess I was just one of those people that always seemed to have a date or go with a group of friends and if anyone were to reschedule I would just NOT go. To be honest, I just felt a bit weird about going alone.
I walked through the doubled doors and selected my desired seat which is usually on the top level of a stadium seated theatre, positioned right in the middle of screen and not too high or low…it was just right. That very moment was liberating to me, I was in the theatre, about to watch this comedy and I looked to my left and my right…no one was seating next to me. Reality sunk in … I was really alone.

It’s funny how I didn’t seem to mind and the Swedish fish and root beer seemed to taste that much sweeter.
Challenge yourself if this is something you haven’t tried and do it! If this is not new for you then I encourage you to keep doing it. It’s nothing wrong with getting dolled up, picking the place of your choice and treating YOURSELF! Why not? It’s the month of love so why not love yourself right?
Solo dates are something I may do more frequently, this date left me feeling more confident, independent and the kicker is I had a blast… as I singed in my Celine Dion voice “All by myself”

I hope everyone has a blessed day and remember to love yourself...then you will be capable of loving others =)

I’ll take working in the media or fashion industry for 2000 Please.

I’ve always envisioned myself as someone that would work in the media/fashion industry in front of a camera having the time of life while connecting with viewers all of the world. Is that too much to ask to be one of the individuals that LOVE their job?

Jobs that catch my attention are shows like TRL, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, The Dish, Entertainment Tonight and Project Runway to name a few.

Looking at shows of this nature makes me say to myself “I can definitely do that!”  But I’m not exactly sure how to get there. I think that is the one thing that gets many of us in a rut, we don’t know what the next step to pursuing our dreams is or who exactly to contact. In some cases that whole it’s not what you know it’s who you know deal would come in pretty handy.  Since I don’t have that at the moment I have to rely on my job searches to lead me to some type of outlet to meet someone that could point me in the right direction.

The problem is sometimes they are not always pointing you in the right direction and confusion inevitable.  Then I’m right back to the drawing board… sigh.

A career in media/fashion would be ideal for me because I have experience being on-air talent; I’m animated, articulate, creative, confident, care-free, a team player, stylish and professional.  I’m sure I can impress many people IF I were just able to get my foot in the door…or even a pinky toe.

Grabbing an opportunity like this shouldn’t be hard right? I mean even Barbie has the occupation I desire. But then again Barbie has EVERYTHING ...right?

Here are some images of jobs I desire to do ONE DAY.

If anyone knows of contacts that could assist me in my search of landing my dream job by all means forward that information to my email: patriciaawosiyan@hotmail.com

Have a blessed day!
